I have an 03 disco w/ the 4.3 and the GEMS. When it idles after it gets completely warmed up, I am getting a blinking oil pressure light. I tried changing the pressure switch. I flushed the engine and changed the oil twice. I am running 10w-40, non-synthetic. Still getting the blinking light. If I raise the idle slightly, the light stays out. It only has 60K on the engine, and the oil was changed at least every 5K, normally at every 3K. I can't imagine it needs a new oil pump. I do not have a pressure tester. Could it be something simple like the PCV system? Please let it be that, I can't spend the approximate $2,000 to change the oil pump.... Please get me some good advice.... Thanks.

drop the oil pan, and check the pick up tube it maybe partially clogged.

Didn't the 03's have an issue with bad oil pumps?

also you should have a 4.6 liter Bosch not a 4.3 gems, unless you changed a lot of stuff.

Are you saying that it definately is going to need a new pump?

You are correct, 4.6 w/ the Bosch. I just cleaned out the PCV oil strainer and the hoses. the stainer looked bad, the hoses looked good. I doubt it will fix the problem....

Yes, the 4.6 engines did have a oil pump issue. The front cover would break leaving the oil pump inop.

I just went through this with my 3.5 litre V8. Oil Pump gears and a new oil filter housing (half of the oil pump housing) fixed me right up for less than $100 and a bunch of shop wrags. Your engine has a different oil pump configuration than mine - so your resuklts may vary.
