suspicious tranny "miss"

My '01 DII seems to "skip" while I am accelerating through about 1900RPM. It is pretty sublte. It feels like a smooth shift does but it is in mid gear or perhaps when it is shifting from 1 to 2. It is still a little unclear to me.

It is subtle, likely no one else in the truck would ever notice it, but you know how us LR owners are.

Described in another way it feels like a single engine miss but I think it is in the tranny and besides there is no engine light on like I would see if it was missing.

I have 67,000 miles on the rig.

Another forum moderator suggested checking the tranny for codes, then clear the "adaptive" memory so my tranny re-learns to shift again.

Anyone have a thought on this? Is the only option to go to the dealer for this troubleshooting and reprogramming or do some Indie shops have some non-dealer version of troubleshooting software that would work.
