    Mine is an inny also, and it hasn't ripped yet. Don't know how old it is, but I'm guessing it was replaced when it was restored in 2000. Using a protective vinyl spray, like areospace 303, or Maguire's Rubber protectant (like armorall, but better) has kept my rubber pieces flexable, even in -20 degree weather. Plus, it makes it look "purrrdy"!
