    Pretty retro looking Jeep

Les I am surprised, nay horrified that you would mistake a Jeep for a Land Rover

IMHO, this is the most ugliest thing going. Am I crazy in thinking that why do they have to make everything look like a spaceship? I am also curious as to why we cant get defenders either. Europe is more strict than we are in reagrds to emmissions, I dont buy the EPA and Dot. Its ok to drive a Hummer down the street, but not these? Give me the old Defender any day.

Easy. Hummers are made in the US-of-A. And Defenders don't have air bags.

From 2014 (IIRC) Defenders can't be sold in Europe either, for the same reason (air bags that is). As it is the new models have had their engines shrunk (to reduce emissions into more acceptable levels) to extend their sell by date.

Anyway, the Chinese like the shape.

I figured Europe would do something. I love it there, but..I did love seeing Rovers almost everywhere. Thats how came to buy mine ( series 2a). Airbags? Really? I am in the fire department, you should see the people that get nailed by these. Yes, it saved their life though. But did you know that the propellent for them is basically rocket fuel..on small scale. The come out at 300 mph. We should be able to sign a waiver that you dont care if theres an airbag. Its only there for you in the first place. It does nothing to save the other car. Well, when I am ready, I will buy a 25 year old defender, yet another good thing going down..sad..

I take your point, but for me I'd rather be alive, and I'd rather have rocket fuel in the the air bag device than talc. Whatever it is, I want it deployed real quick even if it does slap me in the face something horrible.

The air bag is there to protect the driver/passenger just as plastic bumpers and sloped bonnets are supposedly there to prevent the death of pedestrians who choose to step out in front of a moving vehicle.

That is another aspect of the Defender design.

Oh i agree with you. I just have a hard time with what cars or truck we can get here. Europe has so many choices, I loved seeing them all. In my conspiracy mind, I think its all just protecting our car builders. Let me tell ya, someone gets hit by GM Hummer or Suburban, and there is trouble. So, if we can drive big cars I would like something more sparce and basic. But hey thats just me..

    Default air bags

I have a question about passenger airbags. I see numerous passengers riding with their feet resting atop the airbag "locker", also some have their feet against the windshield with the calf of the leg resting there. What happens when these 300 MPH bags deploy? Oh, and most of them are women sometimes young guys but mostly females.
What do you'all think would happen to them?

Well, if they still had the seatbelts on so the airbag is active, I suspect they would be eating one of their kneecaps. (not a good thing, but it would be a "Darwin moment")
