    Default Front pinion seal removal

My front diff does not have a removable pinion seal flange. Can the seal be removed without removing the ring and pinion assembly? I've tried using heat and a slide hammer to no avail. The seal seems to be one of those metal and leather ones. I can't really pry it as the pinion is in the way.

If I have to remove the R&P, is it just a matter of removing the 4 bearing cap bolts? My green bible is silent on this. Any idea on the torque value for these cap bolts?

You should be able to pry it out without removing the assembly. There is a little tool made for removing these type of seals. It essentially prys it out. The certainly can be a PITA for sure to get out.

Ok, I'll bite. What is this little tool you are talking about? I couldn't find anything on the RN site. The pinion just seems in the way if you try and pry out the seal. I don't want to damage the spines on the pinion.

Something along these lines, although this particular one may be too big and they usually work better with the shaft removed. I can't remember but I may have been able to get a slide hammer attachement under it too.

    Jason,

I'd favour the 2nd (Right hand) pic. over the 1st (Left hand) option.

Just thought I'd follow up. The seal removal tool worked like a charm. Thanks.
