Subwoofer/Amps

The subwoofer on a recently purchased 94 Disco is missing - I'd like to find the box and then install electronics, but can't seem to locate one. Ideas ?

Installed new pioneer head unit and new front door speakers - did not realize I need an external amp until I turned the radio on and it sounded like crap.

Thoughts on what amps (one for head unit and one for sub) work well appreciated. Also suggestions on subs. Where does the amp go for the head unit ? Is it possible to hook up the volume buttons on the dash to an aftermarket head unit ?

You may have better luck on either Landroverforums.com or a car audio site. This site does not have much audio traffic. For what it's worth, I've always used Alpine amp equipment and have been quite happy.
