    Default Defender 110 purchase

    Hello all,

I am considering purchasing a 1984 Defender 110 hard top. I have never owned a Rover, only older LandCruisers. So, I am going in somewhat blind as far as what to look for, ask about. The truck is a 1984, 5 speed, 2286cc petrol, 5 speed, 25,300 original miles. The seller is the second American owner. It originally was a fire tender. It had been listed on ebay but the reserve was not met. Selling price is $21k. My intention for the vehicle is to use it as my daily driver. I have owned RHD in the past so that is not an issue. Anything I should be looking for in particular? It seems well maintained and obviously low miles. I have also found a few diesels that could be imported for less money but nothing close to that low on the mileage end. Thoughts on petrol vs the diesel for a Rover? Any "blind" advice appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Dave

Ask about rust in the door bottoms and bulkhead below each corner of the front windscreen. These are expensive to replace. Rust on the rear crossmember is also common but easier to fix. I have had both the petrol and diesel and the petrol is much faster but more to maintain. Most everything else can be fixed with parts locally (in US)

Thanks Nate. The rig is basically rust free. It has spent its US life down south. I think I am going to go for it. Here is a link to some pictures http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1984-...#ht_868wt_1182

Nice and you would not have to do much. If u imported and fixed one up, you would end up spending about the same, less all the stress. I imported a 110 3 door and converted it to a camper. There is a pic in the show us ur rover section (green with white top). Loved it !
