What have all used to loosen/tighten the slotted fuel tank plug? Any neat tricks? Items that work without special tool?

The side of an open-end wrench.

I have worked on trucks for years and never cease to be amazed how goofed up I can get. I wanted to drain the gas, Could not get plug to turn. Got a gas can with a funnel and a pipe wrench and long pipe. Opened it up. It came out like a fire hose and overwhelmed the funnel, the can and me. Stuck it back in, trying to get the threads started. Finally did. Tightened with same monkey wrench. Drips now. I smell like gas still. Starting to like it. Ordered plug washer. Going to jack up the back to send gas forward to lesson the outrage. which will also allow larger bucket. Farewell all.

Thanks for sharing... I'll think twice, now, every time I look at that drain plug.

IIRC a 1/2" combo wrench turned sideways fits.
