Diesel rod knock
I recently acquired a Series III diesel and it had a rod knock so I decided to do a down and dirty installation of new rod bearings without pulling engine. Upon replacing the bearings, I discovered that one rod is using a different cap bolt than the others. Mind you I can only feel the difference, not see it. It is obvious that the pan was pulled at some time. Are replacement rods different than the originals? Any chance someone installed a petrol piston by mistake?

On another note, Is there a chance that your injectors were bad? My diesel had a really loud metallic knock & clouds of blue smoke. My former "british mechanic" swore that my engine needed a complete rebuild. But, after some research I thought maybe try changing out the injectors & luckily that solved the loud knocking/blue smoke issue.
