Cheers, what are the options for crash protection on a series front (or Rear) differential?

Best option is to weld on the sewer cap.
To expand on that, what he is saying is remove the differential, cut the front bulge off the housing and weld a rounded end of a sewer cap in place for the cut off rounded bulge. This is popular with serious rock crawler rigs.
If you had a Salisbury in back there are a lot of bolt on diff protector options available. Any diff protector for a Dana 60 will work.
If you have a newer style pumpkin holding your differential carrier that has 2 holes in a flat section on the bottom of the pumpkin you can use our host's new diff guard.
There is a clamp on diff guard the has been common for LRs for years that has a band that goes around the housing and you tighten the band to hold the protector in place. These always fell off on me because I could never get it clamped tight enough to stay on in rough trails. Probably best to weld these in place.
