    Default Axle Castle Nuts

    Merry Xmas, Land Rover Folks!

I have a project I'd like to do over the Xmas break, but I've hit a stumbling block...

I want to replace the front half shafts on my sIIa SWB (which are 10 spline at the hub end) with half shafts from a sIII LWB (which are 24 spline at the hub end).

I have the half shafts and the locking hubs (24 spline) and I thought that this would be a straight swap, but when I got my existing locking hubs off I noticed that the castle nut at the hub end of the half shaft is a different size (i.e. The treaded end of the half shaft is larger on the sIII LWB than the sIIa SWB).

So before I order a couple of new ones, does anyone know if the difference is between sIIa and sIII or is this a LWB/SWB difference? What is the size castle nut I need?

Are there likely to be any other unanticipated differences that I'm going to strike?

    Cheers, and Happy New Year!

    Warren.

    Hi Mark,

Bugger it, I've just ordered the full AVM 24 spline rebuild kit, which comes with the castle nuts (and other things which will be useful for this project) - it turns out that the AVM locking hubs that I'm installing (AVM model 406) don't use the standard castle nuts anyway.

    Sheesh...

Thanks for the feedback... MERRY XMAS and Happy Land Rovering :-)
