    Default 16" tubed rims

    Anybody know what this cylindrical dingus is on my 16" rims? I assume it has something to do with these being tubed as opposed to tubeless rims, but...

    It fouls the rear caliper on my Heystee conversion, and I'm trying to decide if I can get away with taking that thing down a bit with an angle grinder, or if I'm going to be stuck buying a whole new set of wheels. I'd love to put some Wolfs on this thing eventually, but right now that money would be much better spent on other things...

    Looks like a weight to balance the rim to me.

    You can run those rims without tubes. The only modification is to install a fatter valve core thingy. The air does not leak out around the rivets, contrary to popular old wives tales.

    Good to know. The local tire shop swore they needed tubes, and I didn't argue. Ideally I'd like to have them stripped and powdercoated someday, but for now I just want to get things back together with a minimum of further shipfitters disease.

    Got my rims back from being Gal coated today.
    $12.Australian a rim.
    I have 5 done now.
    Same part No's but one rim, spot welded, the other Riveted.
    The also have done chassis gal for some series owners. Maybe next.

    Nice job on the galvvy. Some I've seen some weigh about twice as much after galv. was done.

    Tire shop says they need tubes because of the bead design, not because of the rivets. Atleast a good tire shop will.
