Thread: Idle RPM

    Default Idle RPM

Just curious what a good idle RPM for a 2.25 petrol with no emissions and a 34ICH might be. I've seen as low as 400, and as high as 800.

    Thx,

    E

I like around 600 RPM. Land Rover used to specify 700-800 RPMs on their emission controlled trucks because it gave more favorable emissions readings and got them past DOT regs. But then they needed to add a fuel cutoff solenoid to stop engine run-on. The lower you can go the less run-on yo will experience.

To run at lower RPMs you need an engine that has the ignition/timing and fuel mixture set well. Otherwise the engine will complain.

Thanks, LD...That’s pretty much what I have it at right now. Still tweaking, though.
