    Default Engine Build Question

Hello. Another day another question: ). This one is concerning my engine build. The Haynes manual states that the piston crown will have a x mark showing orientation to front of engine. My replacement piston have no mark. I had made a sharpie mark on my connecting rod for front. Well my engine shop gave my con rods a clean and no more sharpie mark : ). Connecting rods have a small oil passage hole opening on one side only. My engine builder thinks this oil hole should face towards the camshaft side of the engine. Just want to confirm this is the proper assumption. Thanks. Tom

From my Workshop Manual for the 2A " Fit the connecting rod to the Piston with the oil spray hole of the rod to face the same side of the cylinder block as the camshaft" . This is to lubricate the trust side of the piston bore as its on its firing stroke.

Thank you for confirming that. My engine shop guy actually just did another 2.25L series engine before doing work on mine. So good to know his assumption was correct. Funny that the Haynes manual shows a picture of this oil spray hole but I cannot find the reference to that picture anywhere in the manual. Would be nice if they could add a sentence clarifying the orientation. Well thanks again.
