    having driven some of the pan-american in Panama, I'm curious as to how you went from Panama to Columbia??

    I guess I should have been more clear mtcook72 - I am under the impression that the part of the pan american highway from south of Panama City to Columbia is not passable or at the minimum not safe.

    Hi all-

    Having done most of the Pan-American in 2000, I can say that there is no road passage from Panama into Colombia. I had the impression that everyone was perfectly happy with access to Colombia remaining as difficult as possible. There was a famous expedition I think in 1972 with Land Rovers and Range Rovers trying to bash their way through the Darien Gap, as it's called. Worth looking up.
