    Default '92 Classic LZis a stubborn intermittent starter

    This vehicle has 140,000 miles on it, but has been a very reliable starter for several years without a single issue. Recently, I had the steering box worked on, and at the time of the box getting replaced, the car began to not start. Since then my mechanic has rebuilt the distributor, replaced the ignition pickup module, replaced the cap and rotor, swapped out the ECU, and still the car won't start! Help!

    Default Intermittent Start

    There is a resistor in the line between the coil and the ECU that supplies the ECU with an engine speed signal. While trying to start the engine this is the only way the ECU knows the engine is cranking - without receiving this signal it will not fire the injectors.

    It's possible the connectors on this resistor are making intermittent connection resulting in an intermittent start. If you follow the wires from the coil back up towards the air flow sensor you should find the resistor in the line. Its possible it was dislodged when working on the steering column/box.
