The Series II should have badge on the cargo door that reads "Series II".

Also the door handles are the Marina style on the DI and standard car style on the DII.

Default results of road test on '99 D1 today

    D1 owners:

took a 99 D1 for test ride; 106,000 miles, very good frame and body (located in new england). engine very quiet and smooth, accelerates very well, no noise from drivetrain, no rattles or "rotating" type noises. brakes are spongy on initial application each time brakes are used. no pull left or right under braking. road was damp but not enough to test ABS. none of the "three amigos" lit, nor any other warning lights. rear door is stuck shut.

asking price is $5900, a little high i think, but is in very nice overall condition. CARFAX shows 3 previous owners, and there we many repairs done, though head gaaskets were not on there.

lookiing at another '99 next week, same amount of miles. one owner, CARFAX maintenance records are not specific but vehicle was serviced regularly. price is $4900. we'll see. stay tuned for more......

Saw a clean '98 go for under $3k recently, $5900 is high these days.

"Three Amigos" is a DII issue.

    $5900 for a D1 or most D2's is overpriced.

Granted, enthusiasts price down the trucks but a grand over KBB is highway robbery unless it is pristine showroom quality perfect with every single receipt and record.

And even then I wouldn't go a nickel over $5k out the door.

I'd call that fairly low mileage (avg ~10k a year... not bad).

    - Check under front carpets for rust.
    - When you drove it, did you try locking the CDL? Try all 4 ranges (low, high, locked, open for each of low and high)
    - What model (SD, SE, LSE)? If it has sunroofs, see if they'll let you check under the cargo area carpet for rust from the most-likely leaking sunroofs. Though that would mean opening the rear door...
    - Speaking of the rear door, has anyone tried opening it from the inside? Could help nail down the type of latch failure. I would also want to check around the rear opening for rust, if they'll let you pull the door seal around the rear opening, bottom portion. Simple to pull off and back on.
    - If that engine hasn't needed the head gasket replacement yada yada then it will need it soon. Never heard of one that didn't. Could use that to try and negotiate a few grand off the price.
    - Did all 4 electric windows work, using both the center console switches and the door switches?

Other D1 to D2 obvious differences:
    -rear bumper looks different
-rear lights in different places (higher on rear quarters on the D2)
-different center portion of dash... electronic climate control, etc

    Good luck.
