    Default Crankshaft pully tool

    Hey folks,
Thought I'd share some shots to a custom wrench I had fabricated to remove the crankshaft pulley from my 2.5 n/a diesel. I build a template out of an old coke carton and some duct tape and took the prototype to a machine shop where, when they finished laughing thought they'd appreciate the challenge. The tool bolts to the crankshaft pulley and the handle rests on the frame rail. Next, a 41 mm socket goes inside the tool to break loose the crankshaft bolt. Worked like a champ!!! I had to get my son to pull on the breaker bar to bust it loose, but after almost a month of trying to get the darn thing off I'm done! If anybody ever needs the tool, I can hook you up! Now I can continue with the removal of the injection pump and replacing the timing belt. With all the difficulty I had getting the crankshaft pulley off, I kinda forgot the real reason for doing this was to rebuild the injection pump and replace the timing belt!!!

thats cool. I made the same sort of thing a few years back with the addition of a plate that bolts over the end and a large fine thread nut welded on it and the corresponding bolt that threads through and functions as a puller.
Not an original idea on my part as I think it was pictured in a section of the shop manual "site made tools".

Used to do it (hold the crank still) by stuffing a crowbar through the flywheel cover into the ring gear, but that just didn't seem "professional"
