    Default Tapping/Knocking Engine Noise

I have a 97 RR 4.6 that when the engine warms up I hear a tapping/knocking noise. I just replaced all the seals on the engine. This was to seal oil leak and coolant leaks. Thought that this may help resolve issue. Any hints as to what it might be. Thanks.

Tapping when warm, I would check the pick up tube going to the oil pump... might be clogged.

Thanks, I'll check that. Could it be a rocker arm?

In combined with your other issues... i.e. losing oil... have you check your antifreeze? is it milky? if not.. then you may have to start looking at a rebuild or replacement....

    Default running synthetic motor oil?

are you running synthetic motor oil? if so what are the specs ie 5w30?

    are you losing power?

if engine crank case is under filled by more than a quart you will most likely hear tapping..

whatever you do, do not over fill the engine crank case. if you are running synthetic it is ok to keep a tad under the dip stick mark.

I'm not using synthetic. Don't fill that I have lost power. The car idles smoother since I replaced the seals. New air filter. They put in a cleaner to clear any sludge. I'm trying anything because I fear that I may need to replace or rebuild. Do you know of a good place for a replacement or rebuild. I live in Mich. The car is in getting a new headliner.

One more, could it be the catalytic converter that could cause the knocking? I have 148K miles on my 97 RR. Thanks for the help. Trying to nail down what to do next.
