I must have been a very good boy this last year. Santa left this for me. She needs some bits and some TLC but shes a blast to drive!
I'm thinking to finish her off with "desert storm sand" paint. First thing is to get the head gasket and hoses replaced, then figure out the heat, and do some sound proofing. The frame is in awesome shape, but currently "bare". I have been looking at options for coating the undercarriage but don't want to coat it to the point I can't get to bits and parts on the underside. Any input on this is appreciated.

Question as I've been away for a few months from this forum... I see on the host page "Military Land Rover Sales" with Defender pics and what seems order details...but no references to pricing etc. Has something changed and LR is now allowed to sell Defenders post 97 in NA ??

    thanks for any enlightenment !

    cheers, mike

Defenders have not been approved for North American import since the 1997 D90, laws changed as well as EPA/DOT regulations.

yes I understand the 1997 gate, but are you saying the "laws and EPA/DOT regs have now changed" then ?

They were changed, it wasn't recently. No airbags in a Defender, airbags are legally required.

So they "were not changed" since the 97 restriction, is what I was saying / asking. ie: Nothing has changed it seems.

I just got confused as to why then RN was having the "Military Land Rover Sales" link now on the main page is all - can be a little misleading. I assume this infers that 'military orgs' or related affiliations are capable of ordering Defenders in the US then ?

    thanks, mike

It all has to do with 25 year old vehicles, they are not required to meet EPA (don't know about CA though) or safety measures since they are classified as a historic/classic vehicle (hence 25 years), now if the Govt. goes back and states that all vehicles must meet the safety standards set forth in the USA for that year, then importing 25 year old vehicles might stop.. The import paperwork (emissions EPA gets signed that the vehicle is older then 25 years and it is excluded). This is what I have done for my other vehicles.

Still getting more info on her, I am the first owner following release, picked it out from Withams.
New parts prior to release: engine fitted (less then 5k miles), exhaust, front end, brakes, brake lines, suspension, springs, tilt and canvas, fuel tank.

Will be adding some bits and bobs, maybe 200TDI upgrade and PAS, wolf rear seats, new front seats etc.

1988 Land Rover 90 - Arriving from UK on May 5th, 2013. 2.5 TD original engine, nothing more than paint, new interior facelift and mechanical repair work. AC Kit in box to be installed when she gets here. The car I have wanted since I was 16 and I have had to wait over 20 years to get. Wish they were sold here in the US. Only allowed to attach 8 Pictures so only one before picture and the rest are after restoration.
