    Default How to pull out Climate Control Unit?

    I have a 2004 Discovery HSE. The Climate Control Unit does not illuminate. I need to pull it out to change the bulbs. How should I go about doing it? Your assistance is most welcomed. Thank you!

    I have a'99 DII with the same cc system, and the pass. side temp adjuster does not light up. There is no bulb to replace- the whole unit has to be replaced. This not only was confirmed by RN, but also by an outside LR specialist, and my LR dealer. No way around it.

    Thank you for your input. If the whole unit has to be replaced because of that, it is really unfortunate. I simply can not believe a 4-year old car (2004 Discovery) with that trail of problems - valve cover- head gasket, steering box etc. I have a 1991 560 SEL Benz going strong; a 1996 740IL BMW, running wonderfully well; a 1998 Toyota Land Cruiser, magnificent. I am beginning, as many others, to question British "engeneering". I am afraid, I may be possessing a piece of junk

    The Disco II is a wonderful vehicle designed to get through almost anything Mother Nature can throw at it. I can't explain why the bulbs in the cc system cannot be replaced, but every other dash bulb can. It makes no sense to me either.
    Perhaps the engineers had a reason for this, but logically there is not one that I can successfully determine other than lack of space, or difficulty in removing the unit on a semi-frequent basis (which can only be done by removing other siginficant parts prone to breakage). Either way, we are stuck with it, and the whole unit must be replaced.
    The Disco II was originally designed under BMW ownership ('94-'99), and then Ford ('00-'09). Issues do appear, as the ones you mentioned, but on the whole they are tough, dedicated, purpose built vehicles that must be taken care of. Something may go wrong, despite the best proactive efforts.
    Since I have owned my Disco II, I have only used Genuine Land Rover parts from Rovers North, Rovers North ProLine (f/r brakes), and Bosch (spark plugs & wires) for replacement of certain items. I use Shell V-Power fuel exclusively, along with Gumout All In One at every oil change. Every fluid has been replaced (Genuine Land Rover for ps/brakes/trans, Mobil 1 75W-90 for f/r diffs & transfer case, and Prestone Dex-Cool for coolant), every interior & exterior bulb has been replaced, and the list still goes on, as now I have to replace the coolant hoses.
    It sounds like a lot, and it is, but at the end when all this work is done, I will have a vehicle that, although 11 years old, still has more capability today than any other vehicle this side of Range Rover. It just takes constant effort and an abject acceptance that it has "personality" in its quirks, squeaks, rattles, and non-replaceable bulbs.
    The Disco II is not perfect, but when the bad weather hits nothing else comes close. Lit cc system or not, there is over 60 years of heritage everytime I get behind the wheel. That is a trait no other 4WD can claim, which is why I fix things as fast as I can.

    Thank you for your insights. I do admire and respect the deep love you profess for Land Rover. Unfortunately, my experiences with it have been painfullly different. It struck me for a 6-year old vehicle to be that problematic. My problem does not reside in the fact that its maintenance is expensive (for a non-mechanic). But its repetitious failures and defectiveness are disheartening. I am simply hoping for the best.

    Love, nope. Admiration, yes. After you do all the repairs, it is hard not to keep going. All the time and money invested, well, it has to account for something. Selling the DII after all the work doesn't make sense, because I would have to do the same thing for the next one.
    If you have had that many problems, I can only explain it as the '04 was the last year of the Disco and the LR3 was being ramped up. I hear this all the time.
    I know maintaining it is tiresome, believe me I have an appointment with a LR specialist for the coolant hoses tomorrow and I have consistently ordered parts for it every month since October '09. But like I said, once you pass the point where there is no benefit to sell it, you'll enjoy it and go nuts at the same time. I'm already there.

    The bulbs in the Head A/C Unit are replaceable. I toook the car to the dealer, they fixed it.
