Default Removing the shift handle knob and bezel?

    Hi all,

I am a new member here and also the proud owner of my first Land Rover, a black 2003 model that I bought last month.

I have a question about removing the shift handle ball and bezel. My center console is in need of replacement, the former owner had kids and I think they steped there to get from the front to the back seat, anyway the console is cracked as well as the window control switch plate which I am also replacing. I'm kind of stuck as to how I get the bezel off with the shift knob so firmly attached. It doesn't seem to want to turn either way and unscrew and I see no release screw or clinch pin under the bezel at the bottom of the shift lever. I did get the bezel loose enough to look underneath but that is about it. Any ideas?

Shift the car in neutral. Turn the car off, apply emergency brake. Squeeze the button on the gear shift lever and pull very hard straight up...DO NOT TWIST! I did it and had to replace my gearshift assembly (fortunately under warranty).
