    Default 98 Discovery shuck in park

    After pulling a small camper over the weekend. Main shifter will not come out of park. I've removed all the weight, but still I'm stuck in park unable to shift to neutral or anything. please help

    Try by-passing the brake pedal switch, the upper one.
    This will make the brake lights stay on but you should be able to move the auto shift.

    plug the third brake light connectors into the defroster wires and turn on defroster. this will turn on the brake lights and allow you to shift.

    other possibility is the e-clip on the interlock cable of the shifter has come off.
    pry the rectangular cover off the top of the shifter and look inside there is a small e-clip that goes on the interlock cable.
    pull the cable up by hand or replace the clip with one from the hardware store.

    Wouldn't hurt to check the fuse for the brake lights first.
