    Default Drum brakes

Drum brakes on the rear of a 90 x-mod new pads, drum, springs & caliper.
somehow although I set them up as the old ones were bottom spring was inside the pad& top was also inside the pad with one end of spring attached to the post of the backing plate.

Brakes overheated on way to & return from welder10 miles each way, touched the drum at one point on way home it was real hot.
so something is not set properly, any advice.

I had backed off the adjuster & turned it back in to just engage brakes.
that was mos ago when I did the brakes.

    Thnx.

They're either not adjusted correctly or they aren't returning when you let off the pedal. If they aren't returning it could be a mechanical bind(rubbing or incorrect assembly), seizing wheel cylinder, bad master cylinder or bad flex hose. Unfortunately you just have to dig into them to find out what the issue is.

I assume returning could be checked without drums on wheels?
Otherwise will check see if assembly is correct, as they were before an assumption.

    Craig,

Shoot a pic of the shoe/springs when you take the drums off and post it here, so advise can be given.

Les had reassembled as it was when taken apart, although a quick look at shop manual might be wrong.
One leg of the top spring is to the post on the backing plate.
added a pic of each side.
