I'm currently restoring a 61 109 SW and was wondering if it is possilble to have the best of both worlds. I'd would like to keep it a station wagon, but would also like a canvas top in the summer while still retaining the four doors. I know one of the problems would be the rear door, but maybe I could have a spare 109 door to put on when I got the soft top on. I would also have to keep the T-piece intact. This way it would be semi-open, keep the rear seat, and the jump seats. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Just replace the rear door with a tailgate. The biggest obsticle you face is that the rear doors of the 109 are a one piece design, and they do not make a half door to allow for a full open air setup. Your front doors can have the window portion removed.

I think parts are available. Do research.

Probably Badger Coachworks (or whoever they are) make a special canvas top for what you want.

I've seen a couple of 109 SW Rovers that had the B post sectioned such that it could be unbolted when the top is removed. I thought about it for a while on my own 109 but I decided that installing/removing the hardtop wasn't something I'd want to do enough to justify the work involved.

However, if done well it looks like a stock setup and would be better than having the B pillar sticking up in the air unsupported.

Good luck!

I guess that I forgot to mention that the doors were made into 2 piece affairs along with the B posts. It would be some work and you'd have to fab most pieces yourself - but it is doable.

Cheers!

Holy crap that is awesome. Exactly what I was looking for. If you don't mind, I will be asking you a lot of questions in the near future.

Edit: Oh, it's not yours.
