Don't know why I never posted the progress of my rebuild up here but thought I would post the link to the photo's of the build so far for anyone that might be interested.
A little backstory. Started out as a 1975 109 exMOD FFR 24volt. It has taken 3 years and I had hoped to have it ready to take to MAR this year but I'm a few weeks away from having it done.
Converted to 12 volt and some upgrades. It was never supposed to be this involved but OCD is a terrible thing to waste!!

You sure have some nice toys to play with.

I suppose with your degree of OCD its important to ensure the minimum of fuss :D

Love the colour. Looking forward to seeing it complete.

Pretty sharp looking Disco too.

Nice! What did you prime and paint the engine with?

scatterling
09-23-2010, 03:22 PM
The engine was painted with Dupli-color Engine Enamel. 'Grey engine primer' #DE1612 and then 'Detroit Diesel Alpine Green' #DE1618.

what kind of paint did you use on the axle housing and stub axle?

scatterling
09-25-2010, 06:16 AM
The axles were sprayed with Rust Bullet 'BlackShell' and the stub axles were sprayed with Eastwood Rust Encapsulator and then top coated with Eastwood Chassis Black.

Very nice. Please tell me more about the seats and the brakes!

scatterling

Thanks. The seats are Trakkers High-back seats and the brakes are the Torrel kit from Rocky Mountain - they went on really easily and everything fit. ( A well made and well thought out kit.)

Neil is my hero! And when you get bored with that 109 you have my number in speed dial. ;)

Just an update for those interested. The build has taken forever but I have learned so much. 3yrs 3 months and it is done. ( well as done as a Land Rover could be)

thanks much. The body colour is Bronze Green. Roof and rims are Alpine white.

What a great job! Are you planning on putting sills or a set of rock sliders on it? IMO, a series never looks quite right without them.

The truck looks great!

Now you just need to jack up the house a little so you can get the Rover in there a little more easily for maintenance!

I love the look of the Trakker seats - so far the closest I've seen to stock look with the added safety of the integrated headrest.

How is the support with those seats? I'm guessing they don't have springs. Can you log miles on them or are breaks necessary?

Can you tell I have a bad back? ;)

Those seats look similar to the ones I had in my SerIII Lwght... they came from the UK on my end, and just bolt down - no springs or else...

liking those seats. they are similar to the ones i had in my SIII 109.

question, what are the metal cross grates you have behind the seats for? and what is the that little box with the gauge and switch for? it reminds me of a flux capacitor...

That's because it is a flux capacitor.

Yea, no kidding... If the S3 Lightweight was truly used military and FFR (Fitted for Radio), then it would have a load of junction boxes (ie: the flux capacitor !) to enable the Radio gear it housed in the rear attached to the rack, seated in rear, or sitting on wings...

Thanks Jeff. Not sure what I'm going to do yet - would like to eventually put sliders on though.

The Trakkers seats are nice and way more comfortable than the old ones. The truck has only done 7 miles since the build so I can't really tell how comfortable they will be on long trips.

Nice truck. Where did you get the disc brake conversion kit from? What heater did you install?

Good luck getting a Rover with a 2.25 to 88 mph!

Turns out that due to the rovers coefficient of drag the terminal velocity reached in free fall is only 87 mph. ;)

Thanks. The brakes are the Torrel kit from Rocky Mtn. and the heater is from Summit racing. I had to rework the heater box and coolant fittings to make it fit in the RHD. It turned out looking stock and uses the side vent as an intake. It moves a lot of air and puts out a ton of HEAT.

Looks like we have the same helpers. My rebuild kept me from going nuts when faced with a diagnosis of MS. Very useful them rovers and helpers.
