sway bars on a 109 mod remove or not????

greetings,
have 109 used to be an ambulance was imported and was changed to a 3
door wth hard top ...it has heavy duty military suspension and sway bars
some say remove better hndling offroad others say dangerous without, any feedback pros and cons..

They were intended to reduce sway with the big hulking ambulance body. You don't need them on a soft-top/3-door 109. However, I'm sure they are reducing sway, so depending 'how' you drive, you may miss them when they're gone...

It's not going to be any more dangerous than any other Series on the roads.

Completely unnecessary in a 3 door configuration. Dangerous? Yeah, it Might be if you were offroading an ambulance.

Ambulance

Our ambulance never had sway bars. And by the way I will challenge you anywhere off road. And we will do it in comfort you can only imagine!

I think I saw your rig at the romp very nice!
I do not know why mine has sways on the plate it says series 2 2x4 ambulance, it is one of the rover north imports in the late ninetys, hope to get a softer ride aka more flex in the woods, the wife just grimaces when i take her out in it... me I grin all the time when I drive it!!

I do not miss them on our ambulance and we get pretty good articulation. Take them off!

A lot of ambulance 109s were brought in stripped of their body and turned into 109 3 doors because

#1 they were usually in good shape and had low miles

and
2 no one wanted ambulances

My 109 is the result of the reverse, its 3 door tub was stripped off of it and the amby body dumped onto it.

   I am considering this modification to our Dormobile. Would you mind measuring the diameter of the bar and the length of the bar arm? It will probably be easier for me in the USA to find a local version with the same dimensions than to get one shipped from the UK.

   The handling wasn’t so much changed as “transformed”. 73% or more of the body roll when cornering was instantly eliminated, and the vehicle handles far better when loaded (including the rack) than it used to empty.
