Found a nice Series 1 88" for sale and am thinking about buying it. I have a 58 MGA that Ill be selling since Ive kind of lost interest in that and want to build a nice Series to go with my D1. Is it blasphemous to build a S1? By build, I mean a small diesel, stronger axles, etc?

That would be totally cool. I think a bit hard in the parts department depending on how much of the original truck you have, but I'd love to see it.
Pics if you do it please!

I love my 86. 2.5 NA diesel, soft top, IIa axles. Great commuter rig and fun on moderate trails.:thumb-up:
And if you don't buy it, feel free to pm the details on it. I know somebody that needs one of those.

I need a 2.0 motor (or as many parts as I can get), so if you do ditch it, please keep me in mind!

A ser1 rig is just like buying any vintage L/R. Mileage is irrelevant, just have to have the parts to work with in decent shape to start. A series 1 does have some differences, but, later ones are better for this than earlier as designs changed a bit for the first few years. I put in a 2.25 in a ser1,88" and the power is about perfect, however, I drive with gears, not the gas pedal.
Somethings you can't avoid, like body panels and various original bits of a 2 can be adapted onto the 1. I love mine and daily it as well.:thumb-up:
Original no - but still mechanically all L/R. I couldn't care less if someone doesn't like it. I didn't build it for them.

Been working on this for quite awhile for a customer. Good parts are scarce and hard to come by. all in all it will be worth it when finished.

I am with do what you want. If you are replacing something there is probably someone out there who wants the parts you are taking off to make their SI a bit more perfect.

I agree. When I did my ser1 resto, I did not throw anything away. I even ebay'ed stuff to the Isle of Wight. :D

I have a few 2.0L engines I collected during my restoration of my 51 80". Let me know what your looking for. The more series ones on the road the better.
