Anyone know offhand what size the steering wheel nut is? I'm guessing there's a possibility I might not have to shell out $30 for one nut. Probably some weird thread pitch or something though. Still seems a bit steep.

Another mystery thread size has cropped up ... the wheel hold down bolts for the dished hood. I have a pair, but they're in pretty rough shape. Went to a place with a pretty good selection and tried every possibility and no matchy matchy. Any ideas?

(The steering column might be 11/16 fine, but it's an odd size, so I'll have to look further.)

I think I got mine from DAP ...$10 or so.

Don't know the hood ones- I used some metric ( i think) chevy
truck spring hanger bolts w torx heads until I can find some originals

hood is 1/2 x 16, the steering nut is probably bsf

Ike, I agree on paper (ie: that's sure what they look like). But damned if I could get a 1/2 nut threaded onto the bolts I have (though they are pretty banged up), and I also couldn't get a new bolt to thread into the hood. Er, bonnet.

The conventional wisdom seems to be err on the side of "Ike's right." So I'll try 'em again.

1/2x16 is not common, you wont find it at the hardware

They're ok, for SAE and Metric, but they don't carry BSF, or any other British thread patters.
Try British Tools & Fasteners (britishfasteners.com) They have most of the BSF, but they're stupid expensive.

If you have the correct bolts for the spare clamps, it will have an oversized head (same size as your lugnuts, for a reason) and what may look like F'd up threads, about 1/4" up from the end, is an anti-vibration material, set into a hole. You won't get a 1/2" fine (1/2 x20) to thread on, and likewise, won't get a 1/2" x 20 bolt to go into the dish on the bonnet, you'll just mess up the mount.
