Picked up another toy - this one has seen some evolution already - 1961 SerIIa Hybrid with coiler upgrade, Range rover V8 & Rear axle, SU Carbs, Defender cloaking etc...

Nice rig,

I still want a coiler SII 109, but i would be happy with that too.

Mike,

Way to go! That thing looks nice. I don't know what you paid for it, but it was probably a less-expensive alternative to a D90.

Very cool.

Wasn't this one from Hawaii, via a long trail that came from Va? If so I have a build CD of photos somewhere.

Yes, this is the one... also the same on this cover of LRM after a paint job :

I built this truck up over 5 years before I sold it to Boris in Hawaii. It was imported by Tony, a FL LR guy and sold to me in CO in 2003, looking like it did on the LRO cover. I restored it and hauled it to TN, then to CA, before selling it to Boris in 2008. It looks better, IMHO, with the soft top, black wheel arches, silver Mach V rims,… But alas, I was just its temporary caretaker.

Agree....It'll be back there soon Bren,
This weekend I put a new stainless exhaust/Magnaflow. Last month I replaced the SU Carbs with new Edelbrock manifold/4 bbl, bead blasted the Mach V's and powder coated back to Silver-grey... and drop off the truck tomorrow to sand and get new silver body paint, plus new doors (new military take offs). Once that is complete in a couple weeks, the hard cab top will come off and soft top back on, plus installation of new defender black leather seats.

Will post next month hopefully...

It looks great, Mike.:thumb-up:
It's starting to get back to the way I once had (or at least, imagined) it, but I never had straight doors to put back on it after my Colo. Spngs. sand balster discovered how soft the Queen's alu-minium is. I also didn't have any cash left in the kittie for a good paint job. I feel sorry for whoever had the task of stripping my sprayed Hammerite off all of the panels! Your engine shot reminds me of when I made the panel to mount the 4 raised breathers for the axles, tranny, and transfer; or when I mounted the after market windscreen washer bottle, or when I made the (rather crude) mount for the remote oil cooler... Every square foot of that engine bay represented hours/days/and sometimes weeks of work to get it where it is. I'm glad you're the current caretaker. I hope to folow this special Rover throughout it's existence. Keep up the good work and please keep the picture documentation coming.

Thanks Bren,
Hard to tell from the picture, but the 'volvo' seats are gone too... new leather defender seats are in now.
The hammerite paint took many hours to smoothout and rework, the finish is amazing now - not a great pic here however, I'll need to take more to show you. Underneath is a new stainless Magnaflow exhaust now also, sounds nice.
I'll be taking the truck cab top off in a month and putting the soft top back, but I left it on to get the same paint finish prior to removing for future. Not the easiest removal process... so need to find a day to mess with it.

Keep you posted, cheers, mike

Awesome. My First Sergeant and I welded those rear springs drop retainers when we were in Colorado Springs. The retainers and the diff sliders (not diff guards, those were a transplant from our RR GDE) all came from Rockware in Colo Sprgs. First Sergeant Dailey is now the 4th Infantry Division Command Segeant Major, serving in Afghanistan. I guess I trained him pretty well :)

Awesome. On the 61 hybrid, I had fabbed up a new rear tub lock-box... a little personalization as well (cool hand Luke - long story), with custom family cup holders, plus took out the rear bench seats and added jump seats.Bren,

Is there anything other than the VIN plate that's still Series? Tub? Seatbox?

Not much on this old girl pal. That's the point, its a hybrid....

My 69 is pretty stock - they fill different needs my friend.
