removed fuel filler

It's a small issue in the scheme/list of things, but the fuel filler was w/o a cap for many years. resulting in this disintegrated fuel screen.

I'd like to repair. Full replacement assembly is more than what I need. On the other hand, Simplest is to jettison the extension tube.
Suggestions?

The screen isn't terribly necessary--You aren't drawing fuel from an open 55-gallon drum with a rusty bucket here in the modernized United States. If you are, I might consider changing gas stations! ;)
