I'm just about ready for paint, but I'm wondering what color tan does The British Military use? Does anybody happen to know? Thanks in advance for the help...

If you want tan then it's the same as US vehicles in the Gulf, you can get it cheap from Rapco. Several people here, including myself have used it successfully.

I was under the impression that the US tan was slightly different like most of the other MOD paints? I doubt anyone here would notice the difference if there was one though Especially if you are doing the whole vehicle in new US paint. .

I have used Aervoe paint before with good results (Could use a hardnener though). Some people have issues with Aervoe though:

To be technically correct you want BS381C #380. Most paint shops have access to the colour chart and can mix it. Some vehicles used BS381C #361 as a second colour to add disruptive camouflage.

As others have said the standard US military sand colour is good for all but the rivet counters.

I used the Gillespie Coatings #686 Tan CARC-substitute paint from Rapco. This is the exact same paint used by the US military for desert camouflage where a real CARC is not required. It is dead flat. If you use a hardener (like KevinNY did) it will take on a slight sheen. The results were excellent on both my vehicle and his. It is easy to use (I sprayed it myself with an inexpensive self-contained HVLP system) and reasonably priced. Let me know if you want to see some pics of my Lightweight painted this color (I'm always looking for an excuse to show it off).

VERRRY NICE INDEED ! This I see is a year old thread but had to add my 'tupence ha'pen'orth' - after AGES of searching locally I was in my local Walmart and - I ended up using initially Krylons spray, then for a flatter finish Rustoleum green camo finish, both on my Series 3 miltary and Sankey.
One tip - do NOT park for several months under an oaktree with a flat finish paint job - - black mold is a result !! Tip for removal - Concrobium mold remover from the place with the Orange Aprons - - NON bleach so will NOT attack paint. Used and recommended !!

MOD paint

Greetings, I painted my ex MOD (88) with colemans duck green boat paint.
The stuff is great, extremely durable, will not bubble with fluids like brake fluid or gasoline on it, and easy to touch up. And of course I applied it with a roller and brush, not sprayed. (The truck was 9 shades of paint when I got it) 2 RAF blue, 2 gold, 3 green shades, and one white, and one red.
