right, so i have the '66 IIa 88" and i'm going to be doing some fluid maintenance in the next couple days. my series anatomy is different than what is shown in the GB.

the GB shows this schematic for the PTO and Transfer Case (early):

my gearbox looks like this:

i cannot locate the filler cap (A), do not have a filler plug (B) or dipstick (C), and cannot locate the level plug (D).

for the late series gearbox, who's doing what for the fluid top off and change?

i also have questions about the oil change and gaskets, but that i will save for a following post.

If you look on the left side of the gearbox (same left as in your photo above), you'll find a filler hole about 1/2 way up the side of the gearbox. It's used both to check the level and fill. You want to fill until it's up to the level of the hole.

The same is true of your transfer case. The filler hole is on the rear, just to the left of the hand brake drum.

I use a gallon oil container with a screw-on pump lid & tube. It was about $5 at the local auto parts store (gallon of gear oil not included).

For good, illustrated instructions on changing gearbox & transfer case fluids, see the August 2009 issue of Landy Wave Monthly (http://www.landywave.com/previous.html).

the manual page shows the series one and series two arrangement (superior) while you have the series 2a setup which has no cap or dipstick. You will have a level plug on the LH side of the gearbox.
