Up in Oregon it's required that your vehicle has a front license plate. Since my sIIa doesn't have provisions for hanging a plate on the front, I've been leaning it up in the front window thinking this would be sufficient. According to the ticket ladies, it isn't.

So here's my dumb question for the new year. Is there a kit or something to mount a plate to the wing, or should I just git-r-dun with a few sheet metal screws? I'm only asking because I know the rear plate has a little more going on back there than a couple nuts and bolts.

I just used the front license plate mounting plate off a Discovery I. Junk yards are full of those Discovery I's.

Several of my Rovers have had a plate mount at the center of the front bumper, and they have all looked the same. This leads me to believe that the mount is a LR part. Maybe someone at RN had a part number.

two of my trucks also had the plate jac04 noted. on my other one I drllid two holes in front bumper so bottom of plate was even with bottom of bumper. pictures of both below.

The NAS sized plate Part Number is :-

90577144 Plate, though this is no longer available from Landrover.

It's an easily made replacement, a right angle plate the same dims as a regular license plate. The mounting holes should be either already in the front bumper or marks in the bumper for mounting holes to be drilled. No big deal to make one for yourself, maybe out of some galv. sheet steel.

Thanks for the help guys. It's good to know that LR did have a factory option. I'll probably end up mounting on the wing still as there would be less chance of it getting in the way.

I always zip tied the plate to the grill, that was until MA decided zip ties were not safe. Now they require bolts. On my RRC i had it mounted under the bumper and bent it way backwards so it was hardly noticeable and still passed inspection.

You might double check, I think if it didnt come with a provision for a front plate, its not required . . . I run a few series trucks with just a rear plate and have not had issues.

That's what I'm sayin... it's just these overzealous neighborhood ticket ladies bustin my chops. I looked up the actual law and all it says is that a plate needs to be displaid clearly, which I'll let you decide.

So here's my dumb question for the new year. Is there a kit or something to mount a plate to the wing,

The long NLA factory plate holder is just a piece of sheet metal with a right angle bend near the bottom that is drilled for mounting to the bumper top.

If you don't want to go through the effort of duplication the factory solution, the plate looks OK mounted directly to the wing front panel:

At least I think it does

I agree with TA, especially on her truck. However, if you want to use a US plate holder, as described by many here, I have one (presently under 3' of snow I think) you can have. You could mount it atop your bumper but to the side, in front of the wing, if you didn't want to drill into the wing panel.

I was going to mount my plate on the front right side of the bumper with the bottom of the plate even with the bottom of the bumper. Then add a light weight angle to the height of the top of the plate. Top screws would be in this angle. I would not mount plate lower than bottom of bumper, as someone said it will get bent back.

Way overbuilt, but I suppose that's a good thing, as it is unlikely to bend if you hit anything.

IIWY I'd probably go for the wing mount.

Drive that to Portland and maybe YOU could get $55 from the city! Pay it forward :D

East High, Is that Lincoln Green?

Wow, I think it is. :sly: It was this color when I bought it and I always assumed it was an approximation to the orignal Pastel Green. The exterior paint is a bit darker than the orignal interior color.

I used nuts and short bolts with washers on the back. Pulled the grille off, attached the plate and remounted. I have centered it on the grille since this picture.

I'd worry that cut off too much radiator airflow, but my truck runs hot in the summer

i can't bring myself to mount anything on the front wing panel except the OG UK plate.

it was enough of a hassle mounting the rear plate to the rear cross member w/o drilling new holes or using adhesive...

i keep the front plate in the truck with the registration and insurance papers with a couple of zip-ties. if/when i get hassled for no front plate i'll just zip-tie it on the grill and hope that gets me by. southern CA cops are pretty relaxed about no front plate, and only cite you for it if A) they're writing you a ticket for something else, or B) are using no font plate as an excuse to pull you over based on profiling.

but they will rarely ever pull you over just to write you a "fix it" ticket for no front plate.

One could install bumper overriders and put itbetween the bumpers. My land Rover came with a pretty thick black angled plate to mount atop the bumper, i'll try to get a pic on here.............. I think the twin plates shown above win though!!........ looks pretty tuff!!
ok never mind, I'll have to learn to submit photos.......... pity, I have so many neat ones.

My '65 109 had but one hole on the right front fender.

So I drilled a hole through the plate and mounted it with one bolt.

This was in Hawaii with temps up in the 90s and water temp sat around 170-180.
