Its would seem today when I went out today my tail lights have stopped working. Its a 1982 109 Series III MOD I weird part is they still come on when I press the brake, the blinkers work but when I flip the light switch on only the head lights come on no tail lights or plate light. Any ideas on where to start?

IIA or III? if a IIa, check the connections to the ignition switch first. May be a loose spade connector, or a disconnected wire there.

Do you have a plain, civilian headlight switch, or the 6 position MOD headlight switch? One of the positions on MOD trucks is headlights on, NO tail lights except convoy light, under the truck, shining on rear diff.

its a regular civilian 3 way switch. No convoy lights.

^^Was it always that way or did someone remove the 6-way? If the civvy switch was a retrofit, I would look at the wiring job.

Same thing happened to me recently. Mine happened to be the ground connections at the rear tub. Also check all the bullet connections from the light switch all the way back to the tail lights. Mine were so full of gunk that I eventually cut and soldered the connections. Couldn't believe how bright the lights are now! One more thing, before you go crazy doing all this stuff, change your light bulbs and clean the tail light assemblies and apply some dielectic grease on the bulbs. Good luck!
