I just saw this post on San Diego Craigslist (http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/pts/2237349812.html) from a guy traveling in Mexico with his '73 Series III that has had his overdrive fail. He's looking for some help/parts to either fix his overdrive or remove it entirely so he can make it the 400 miles back home from Ensenada.

Anyone have a contact out there you could pass this plea for help along to?

George at RDS is the only person I know who could help on such sort notice.

Not really. All he needs is that single gear off of the rear output shaft that the OD replaces and he's back on the road (in a 4 speed). Anyone who travels with an OD really should be carrying that gear (it's the size of a lemon) in their spares for just this occasion.

You need both the gear and the bearing housing. Agreed though, should carry them if you have an OD installed.

Completely agree. I think most Fairey OD failures are the splined input shaft and clutch. Even if you carried a spared clutch, when one goes they usually both go.
