We are almost done with the new engine install and ready to either send this to the scap yard or give it to someone that can use it. Complete long block with Rochester Carb.
The #2 cylinder has 20lbs of pressure...Everything looks good under the valve cover and assume it is either a valve or piston issue.
Located in Decatur IL. Not looking to deal with alot of shipping logistics, but can have it ready and loadeded with a days notice.

I have had a couple of folks that want the carb....I will wait at least a week or so before I part that out. I really want to help someone somewhere and keep this block from going to the junk yard.

does it include the head? If so, is it a 7:1 or an 8:1?

Yes-Includes head. My assumption is it is a 8:1 but do not know for sure. Anything I can look at that tells me?

From TAW's website (too lazy to type it myself).

QUESTION - How can I tell if my 2-1/4L petrol engine has 7:1 or 8:1 compression? If I have a 7:1 head can I mill it to make an 8:1 head?
ANSWER - Look at the center head bolt between the carburetor and the valve cover. The surface of the head under that bolt may look like the other head bolt mounting surfaces or it may be a raised flat surface about 2.5 cm (1 inch) wide that goes between the valve cover and the edge of the head.
If the mounting surface under this head bolt looks like the surface under the other head bolts, you have an earlyish 7:1 head.
If you have the raised rectangular surface look carefully to see if there is a number stamped on that surface. If there is no number or a 7 stamped there then you have a late 7:1 head.
If there is an 8 stamped there (Mine looked like two zeros that were stamped to make an 8) then you have an 8:1 head.
Only heads with the raised flat surface that have an 8 stamped on it are factory 8:1 heads.

My wife said no landy!

Raised area with nothing stamped on it.....Thus this is a late 7:1 head.

The stamped 8 is not always there. I have a head which was purchased from RN by PO (have receipts) that is 8:1 and not stamped.

I tend to think 2 owners back did upgrade to 8:1 but do not know for sure thus I am representing head as a 7:1....One has to keep in mind this engine is free.

If you still have the motor, I'm very interested. I'm not too far away (the Quad Cities) so I could get down and grab it pretty easily, and I have an SIII with a cracked block that I need to start looking at replacing (crack is "just" in a water jacket, and is repaired with JB Weld (and holding so far), but I don't expect it to last forever.) Ironically I also need a carb (see my posts for all the drama) and have been looking on ebay for the right Rochester at the right price.

Thanks,
Shawn

Shawn - FYI. Scott generously came through for me on the engine. I'd think you can source another locally, but if not, PM me. I was talking to a guy out here about an engine he wants to sell. No idea on pricing though.
