After a long while with an after-market cable, I finally replaced the choke cable with one from our hosts. Now I can't remember how the choke warning switch mounts on the cable. Does the nipple on the switch go in the hole closest to the steering wheel or the one towards the engine compartment? The comments about "take lots of pictures" certainly would have helped if I'd read them before I took the d----d thing apart!

It doesn't matter. It's just a simple switch that completes a circuit from the bulkhead-side terminal to the engine-side terminal of the switch.

It's item #46 on the lower schematic HERE (http://www.roversnorth.com/store/images/category/medium/LR-page83.pdf).

EDIT: Disregard all that. I just re-read the OP. You aren't talking about the electrical connections, but rather the mounting of the switch itself--Sorry!

Don't know if this will help, but here's a few photos of my (cracked) cold start lamp switch. Bulkhead is on the left and engine is on the right in the photos:

Activate the cable from open to close and observe the holes. One hole is for locating the switch (blank hole) and in the second one you will see the cable inside moving which activates the switch. Be sure the nub on the switch is aligned with this second hole at install.

Thanks guys. I will be doing the (re)install tomorrow, weather permitting. My switch mounts right under the dash (SIII, '72) so I'm hoping the brace doesn't get in the way when I line up the holes in the (now) right spot.

Is this switch still available? Or is there a replacement?

Clint - have you tried our hosts? That is where I got mine. What all are you doing to you 88"? I did an engine rebuild and replaced most of the interior on my 72. The S3 is a blast after the S1 I had before.
