MY diff locked up and I think the pinion gear broke. Anyone know of used or rebuilt differentials available for my no longer roving rover. Anyone know were I can get a used or rebuilt rear end or....pinion gear?

might be a good time to put in a detroit?
I've got some slap in my rear diff, thats my plan for if (when?) it gives up the ghost.

There are loads of people with diffs out there, good used ones are so common that most people can't be bothered with selling them and going through the shipping hassle.

IIRC the ring gear bolts on the early Series IIIs had problems, they used to fail quite often though by now a lot of them have been replaced and the issue thus corrected on the surviving trucks.

I would love to go Detroit, however, I don' want to have to replace both the front and back in order to match up. I think this would be necessary.
I still need to find info on where to get parts for my diff or a replacement diff for a decent price. thanks

Do you have a detroit and did you have to replace both front and back? I noticed you are a daily driver.

You don't need to switch both front and rear diffs to use a detroit. But you should ask yourself if you really need and want a detroit or if throwing a $50 (or maybe even free) used stock diff back in will suffice. Don't buy a detroit just so you can say you have one.

And late 2As also. As I recall, the heads would snap off, not shear. I lost one and the head got caught in the ring gear, breaking half of one tooth

thanks for the info and I agree, however, the best used differential I have found is a front that I can use for parts to repair my back diff. The cost is $365. That is why I am tyying to find another source to buy a used diff. (or pinion gear)

Front and rear diffs are interchangeable provided you have standard rover axles.

365!!!! Jeez I just sold two perfect diffs for 100 bucks and even then had a hard time finding someone.

yeah, keep looking. that's way out of the envelope of 'normal' pricing.

He was quoting just a used hogshead, not complete unit.

OK just as a public service to your fellow rover owners....WHO was asking that much for a bare chunk?!
