View Full Version : 16" Wheels

I recently purchased a 1974 Series 3 with only 13,000 miles.

I know that Series 3 trucks were imported with 15" wheels. The previous owner bought four 5.5"x16" rims w/1.875" offsets from Rovers North and mounted them onto Cooper 225/75R/16 tires.

My turning radius seems greatly diminished compared to other Series Rovers that I have owned. It almost gives a "lurching-chugging" feeling when I turn the wheel hard. I believe they may be rubbing.

Do I have to correct the steering stops to remedy this problem? Are the tires that he mounted on these 16" rims not recommended? This truck will never see dirt and it's only driven on occasions. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, Thanks Ron Thompson

to me it sounds like something is rubbing too.

I would first try adjusting the steering stops as you asked.

If they're rubbing there should be some nice bright areas on the inside of the fenders where the tires have rubbed the paint off. Chassis rail too. At full lock you should also hear the rub.

Never see dirt? Saddest thing I've heard all day!

I have a driveway full of Rovers. Some for play. Some for driving and some for showing.

No harm. It seems like every week I have a problem with at least one of them. Rovers are an expensive hobby.

Yes, to own and love old series is to not love your wallet very much, that's a fact....

But it does put you into a unique pride of ownership arena...and the ongoing satisfaction of the quest for the holy grail. I think Jac may be the only only to have found that however :-)
