Hello all,

The end of next week, I will have to do my first oil change (only fluid not changed since buying it in October as it was just done).

Anyway, one of the many leaks probably is the oil pan, and it has some light surface rust on it.

I thought that while changing the oil, I would replace the oil pan gasket and repaint the pan and the filter housing. Anyone know what color it was when new? Black, that duck blue?? If duck blue, is there a can available at a local hardware store or do I need to order the exact stuff from RN?

Also, another leak I might tackle is the front hubs (I think). Sorry I don't know the name of the part.....but looking under the car at the "hubs," there is oil that appears to be trickling out. I removed the fill plug from the side of the "hubs" and both sides were full. Any clue what gasket I might need to do both sides.....and how difficult is it?

One leak at a time......:D

The oil pan and filter 'cup' were black from the factory.

Not sure of the color, but if it is duck egge blue, I hear its hard to find...detroit diesel green is close and plentiful at auto stores in rattle can

Great tips both!

Detroit diesel green...will remember that...might try to use that to clean up the engine a bit in situ with a lot of masking!

Black....simple....thanks.....will do that when I drop the pan.

Cheers,
Julian

The Detroit Diesel Alpine Green paint is an decent substitute for the old Duck Egg Blue, but it wouldn't pass the "rivet counter" test. DEB is more blue (yeah, you saw that coming!) than DDAG. My Turner engine came painted in a color that was a little more blue than DDAG, although I'm not sure if it was a correct color match or just something close that Turner uses. Either way, the engine will look very nice if painted with DDAG:

Being in the fashion industry as my day job I think I can call that sweater as an argyle sweater vest. Still to be had today if you really want it :D.

As to the perm you are on your own...

DDAG is a pretty good match for most people.
GreenMeanie's 109 engine looks pretty cool in it :thumb-up:

Yes....looks great!

With just removing a few bits and giving a steam clean, I might be able to do it in situ. We'll see.....not until I decide what I am doing with the truck overall. For now, enjoying driving the heck out of it!
