72 S3,,,,On the Road again

It's been 2 years since I purchased my 1972 NAS Series3,,,She's no show room queen and came with the usual rust. I made sure the frame was solid before I bought her but the passenger footwell is shot. She had not seen the road for two years since the PO passed away then I park her for another two while I raise the funds to get her going. One of the good things she came equiped with was an old Rovers North decal, that's how I found this place and got the parts to get her back on the road again. Even she knew where to find good Series parts.
Now all I have to do is get the lights and turn signals to work and off to get my state inspection sticker we go.

Living in the mid-west it does look like a mounting point for a plow. They are mounting tabs for the removable tow bar the PO installed. He used to tow it from his home in Dallas to his beach house in South Padre Island, Texas. I used to live in South Texas and flat towed the Rover to Wisconsin when I moved here in July. It also has a front skid plate to protect the steering linkage and diff.
At first I was confused if I had a IIA or III because it came with an SIIA metal grill/badge. After reading more about the differences and later decoding the vin, the plastic in the dash should had gave it away(rookie). It has the Fairley overdrive and Warn locking hubs. I like the dual master cylinder/brake booster set up but I did'nt like paying for a new system since the old one was not working. New clutch MC, slave cylinder, clutch disk, PP, throwout bearing, fuel sending unit, fuel pump, 34ich Webber carb. speedometer cable, tires,,,,,,,,,,,all this had to be replaced.
Can't wait to start using this as my daily driver.

New clutch parts installed, I cleaned the transmission/t-case/OD while I had it removed. Replaced the rear t-case seal, it was leaking all over the E-brake, now it's dry and best of all ....it works. I also drilled/tapped some extended breathers on the t-case and OD. Will have to do the tranny later.

Where did you get that gas tank? I got one with a welded seam that doesn't seem to do very well.

The stainless steel gas tank came with the Rover. At first I thought it was a stock item. After I remove it to clean the gunk that was inside( acetone and a new chane link did the trick) I noticed that the filler neck hole behind the seat base had been hacked in order to fit this newer gas tank. It cleaned up well and even looks new inside.
I just filled it up with gas and it does'nt leak any fuel. If I decide to park the Series for a while I'll just empty the tank via drain plug under the tank.

Yeah they do have a coat of paint on them. This thing looks like it got the Golden Maco paint job. Even the galvanized trim and rubber seals got some. Just mask and paint!!!!!

This should probably be on another post but wouldn't you want to fill the tank before parking it for a long time? Perhaps add some fuel stabilizer?

sounds correct to me. It'll save you from rust and frozen fuel guage senders.

I parked my IIa for well over a year (when the points were burnt out and I couldn't get it right) with a full tank and stabilizer. It was fine

Thanks for that information about the fuel. Hopefully I'll never park my Series for that long but if I do I'll be sure to add Fuel stabilzer.

Here is the grill my Series was wearing when I bought it. This had me thinking it was a late IIA for a while. I wish it was a IIA as I like the metal IIA dash/bulkhead over the SIII dash.
