After lots of $, and way too much time, the Rover fired up and drove up/down the drive way! The 2.5 na diesel got a rebuilt injection pump, new lift pump, new water pump, timing belt, clutch, and throw out bearing. I resorted to the green book when it wouldn't start, purged the filter, injection pump, and each injector and it fired up! After much celebration, we adjusted the idle and fighted everything back up. Of course, I've got a question:
I used the "Special" tool to set the static timing of the IP. Problem is, it still runs REAL rough. Is there a way to fine tune the timing dynamically (While it's running)? While it drives ok, at idle it darn near vibrates it to death! Much worse that before. Appreciate any guidance on "Fine tuning" the IP.

Thanks for all the help getting it back together and running, now maybe I can hit the trails before the heat of summer gets here. Seems like most of Texas is on fire right now!

Congrats on getting smoke. I'd suggest going to a diesel shop for fine tuning. They can do stuff on a running diesel I wouldn't know where to start. Out of curiosity, how much is diesel in TX ? It's now $4.25 here in CT

Does the engine have any (excess) smoke, either blue/grey or black?
If there is black smoke on idle the fuel pump is probably over fueling, this can be corrected to a degree.

Congatrats on your perseverece in getting the vehile to move under its own power.

Last I checked, Diesel is about $3.95/gal, but that was 2-3 weeks ago. And Les, I don't recall excessive smoke from the tail pipe. I'm going to try a bottle of fuel treatment of some sort (That tank has been sitting over a year), and drive up/down the street a bit to "Wake it up". Other than that I may folllow the advise to contact a diesel specialist. Just seems that it should'nt be that difficult, what with all the Land Rover stories about field repairs. Anyway, it's running, and I've got great plans for it!

If there is no smoke at idle you can turn the idle up a bit to smooth it out. when your on the throttle under load there should be a good bit of black smoke (thats the lack of power causing that). I use lots of Kleen-Flo diesel Lubricant and conditioner, helps a lot in cold weather.
