Hi

My '71 Series IIA 2.25 Ex MOD has been making a very unpleasant squealing noise - mostly when I press the gas pedal or when it's cold out. It appears to be the fan belt. The truck has been converted to 12v /alternator. The belt is a 9395 Gates Green Stripe XL and less than a year old. I seem to remember hearing something about belt slippage due to the hardy Ex MOD 8 blade fan? Any suggestions? The belt doesn't appear to be loose, but I haven't tightened it. I attached some photos. Thanks for any tips/insight!

Try tightening it first. That would be the first step. It does look like it's sitting a little deep in the fan pulley but I have no reference in front of me to compare your set up to. The belt needs to make contact on the sides and not the bottom so if it's too narrow you won't have the proper contact area. Lastly, you can try scuffing up the sides of the belt. Once it's glazed over you'll have a hard time keeping it from slipping.
