Truck is in gear. 1 11/16 wrench...Bang with a hammer...Nothing. The gears seem to still turn and I can't get it to move at all.

I searched the forum...but can not find anything.

What is the trick?

I found a video of someone dropping the oil pan and placing a board to keep the gears from turning. Seems like a nice trick...but that also seems like a lot of things to do.

I had to hit it several time with an impact wrench using the shortest number of extensions to just clear the bumper. Truck was in gear, hubs locked with the brake set and the wheels chocked. I don't remember if it was in low range was well. I was quite frankly amazed at what it took to get it off.

Another possibility is to remove the starter and fabricate a stop that locks the flywheel in place. It's too bad these engines run the opposite way from every other engine made on the planet or you could use a breaker bar and the starter to crack it loose:D (enough ranting).

I've tried the breaker bar approach, but never with any luck. Use an impact wrench - it's always worked for me.
