As long as my Rover is back in my possession I will be there. It is worth it to me just to be able to see old friends. Anything else is a bonus.

Now Ted, what could be more romantic than sleeping in a tent you set up together in horse field, next to a bunch of mobile british oil spills, with the o'dour du 90wt in the air? If you like stage shows the tour of "Don's barn O' parts" has had several magnificent reviews over the years.

I'm giving this thought. Anyone passing through/near the lower Hudson Valley on the way?

msggunny

Whats the 5w's on this?

I have never been and want to come. From the website it looks like camping is available. How "primitive" is it (meaning do i need to bring an e-tool and bog roll)? Is there a place for you to make a fire to cook with? Do you need to bring your own wood or is charcoal the preferred method of cooking fires? Dogs?

What is the coordinating instructions regarding the swap meet? Is there somewhere to see what others bring before i haul my extra crap up there? Is "gently used" an acceptable term when describing parts or are people looking for NOS/resto grade stuff?

Thanks.
Hope to make it up there, will be sans-wife but will make up by bringing beer. (if thats allowed??)

I Leak Oil
08-24-2011, 03:14 PM
To answer the important question...yes, beer is allowed....even encouraged!

Camping: bring a tent and a bag, porta-toilet on site.
Fires, he usually has a bon fire area. Doesn't like individual fires as it's a working farm field. Gas or charcoal grill for cooking.

Swap meet: Just bring your junk so we can haggle you down on it!

Better update your signature from 11.5 minutes to 11 then. For just getting your rover back on the road after 10 months or so I am sure you were grinning the whole time. The lack of doortops does bother me with my son. If only there was someplace or someone near the event that sells door tops.

Jim-- Glad your rover will be there. I am keen on hearing the long story. Any chance for you to work a ghost in to the mix? My son wants scary ghost story for this trip.

Thanks to Don ,Mike,Judy and Lisa for a great weekend.
And to Jason for the great photo ops of his Rover buried to his gills in the Great Flye mud bog.The only one to successfully get through on his own power(even if he smoked his winch in the process.) He don't need no stinkin' John Deere recovery vehicle

Made it home. Sadly the rover is down for a while. I lost my second gear synchro somewhere between Don's house and home. Just drained the oil expecting alot of brass (and there was) and out pops bits of steel gear as well. Never heard anything major on the highway happen. I think it blew parts of second gear exiting a gas station on route 2. I still have all gears up / down and reverse.

Otherwise had a great time and it was alot of fun seeing everyone again. The crop duster will be here soon to fumigate my son clean, so I will post some pics soon.

Cheers!

Due to family and weather I was detained. I did show up however sunday morn 8:30 ish to show off my awards and play in the mud with friends. Alas I saw only tail lights as people packed up and said their goodbyes. :sly:
I'm sorry I did not get to see all of you but come hell and high water I will be there next year, I will be teaching a winching and safety class as requested by our host. New leather gloves will be handed out as part of the class. Come learn how to use your winch to it's full potential... I will also be bringing some sand / bridging ladders courtesy of the U S Army circa WWII.
These are steel and will bear the full weight of our trucks at a 45' angle, much safer than aluminum, but a bit heavier..( 29 kg for the pair)
Cheers and I hope to see you at the next camping trip in Antrim NH on the weekend of the 8-9 of Oct...

Fun weekend and it was good to see everyone again. I spent about an hour and a half blasting the mud off the truck. That stuff was packed in everywhere underneath (still no comparison to that red MAR mud). Then another hour to replace the winch solenoid that went while trying to get out of the pit of sloppy goodness!

Here is what drained out of the transmission after getting home. I never noticed when the brake happened. How serendipitous that RN did a tech demo on transmissions at the event. One thing I did forget was the incompatibility for swapping bellhousing between synchro and non synchro transmissions. Anyone recall that bit of detail?

The non-suffix and suffix A boxes on the earlier II trannys used a smaller lay shaft bearing (I pretty sure) so the bell housing won't work with the SIII or later IIa suffix transmissions. They are easy to tell apart as they have openings on both sides for the clutch mechanism.
