U-bolts

I purchased some NOS u-bolts, got them repainted, but when I went for a test fit, there seems to be too much play. I think the PO drilled the plates out to 1/2". So, I am trying to find a source for the factory size u-bolts, but 1/2" diameter (factory ones are 3/8", IIRC). Anyone know of a place that sells these?

Id really like to start getting the axles mated to the galvy chassis.

Jason,
There must be someone that makes U bolts in your area. Usually a place that works on tractor trailers as that kind of item breaks frequently. Give them a shot.

I get mine at my local NAPA. Bring what you have and they can match it up.

I found the same thing with Genuine replacement U-bolts.
When rebuilding my Lightweight, I ordered new U-bolts from Rocky Mountain. They measure a true 7/16" (the correct size), come with nuts, and fit perfectly in the 1/2" spring plate holes.

Bring your U bolts for length and shape and your plates for the proper diameter.

Jim- I spoke to the shop I got my spring clamps from and, IIRC, they wanted like $20/u-bolt. Thats a little too rich for my blood, but I'll confirm.

$20 seems really high. I don't think I paid me than $5 ea when I replaced my rear ones. What I find is the price is based on the level of I want your business.

I stand corrected! Called the spring shop I used before to confirm and spoke to the manager. The $20 each is for big semi trucks. He'll bend mine for $7 each. I'll be heading there tomorrow with bolts and plates in hand.

I use Husky Spring for U-Bolts. You can browse by size which is far more useful than by vehicle.

Rockauto usually has a better price once you have the part number from Husky.
