Wiring in the Dome light - SIII

    jsut ran the purple/white wire.

The only way that I can get my dome light to come on is to have the side lamps switched on and then flip the dome lamp switch (the switch that controls the dash lights). If i switch on my headlights the dome light goes off. Is this right?

No. The dome light (second position on the switch) should work all the time. The instrument panel lights (first position on the switch) should only work when the lights (parking/head) are on. Sounds like something is on the wrong post on the panel/dome light switch.
