Morning Freak out

as I have posted up recently I have replaced my windscreen seals (top and bottom) in a feeble attempt to slow if not stop water infiltration into my Rover..
After what seemed to be a good downpour last night I went out this morning to survey the damage..
low and behold the LH foot well was again pooled with water (I have an acoustic mat so it does just drain through) and the RH side was covered with drops and splashes of water.
My visor board has a few drops and the RH side of the dash was wet by my heater controls.

WHAT AM I MISSING??

I’m really running out of options to throw money at the truck at have the solution relive itself.. It’s sad that I really can’t drive the vehicle not because of mechanical or any other issue, but rather that it’s not weather tight enough to not have significant water in the truck after a night rain.

any help steering me in the right direction would be great..
as farfetched as any suggestions sounds I’m all ears right now..
I have tubes of clear and black silicone and I’m not afraid to use it..

Check the door top and front edge. If they're not perfectly watertight, everything from the roof gutters will run in there.

Also have a look at the sealant where the rooftop and the rain gutter are riveted, expecially in the front corners.

Oh...and buy a rainsuit.

I always got water in the right side of my Series , finally solved it by running a bead of silicon along the roof gutters...YMMV

Since you installed the seals have you been inside the truck when it is raining to see where the water is coming in?

If not have someone spray water on the truck while you sit inside and assess what needs to be fixed.

I have not subjected myself to water torture as of yet.. but I have a feeling it’s in my future..
I had the rain gutters sealed with brushable seam sealer prior to paint.. but I have noticed there is a bit of cracking in certain areas.. it might pay to chip it all out and use a flexible clear sealer.. that would involve me removing the roof rack..

as far as the door top..
a few months ago I notice that my RH door top was not sitting as high as it could..
there were some suggestions to shim the door top and I did, but recently removed the shims the one day I took the door tops off..
I came up with another suggestion of using a dremel and actually opening up the hinge mounts upward.. I have a feeling there was some bulkhead repair in my rovers life and the PO might have been 2-3 cold ones in when it was welded up. So I do have a plan, or at least a thought on how to address my door top..

But as far as the rain gutter.. I will look into that tonight when I get home.. perhaps that’s where my biggest problem lies..


the flood in the LD foot well is really what’s stumping me.. I’m not getting a lot of infiltration from the LH door (or at least as it appears) so the water is coning form the bulkhead I’m assuming..

I cured my water ingress problem. As Volvos don't leak, I make my daughter park outside and put the S3 in the garage.

I am re-roofing the garage and left the series truck outside and rain is expected this afternoon. This is my temporary solution to leaks. My wife picked it up for $20 it also is great for temporary shade when working on the truck outside. My leak is the rivots at the rain channel but I have not fixed it yet, but I tend not to drive it in the rain, hard rain on the bare pickup top with no headliner sounds like someone is just throwing gravel at the roof.

I get water that comes in via my clutch pedal. Only way I ever knew was after a *little* rain, there was a *little* puddle under the clutch pedal.

Also I had BAD water coming in from everywhere. So I just went out there with the garden hose and commenced to spraying the SOB and checking it out. I discovered that the seal where the roof meets the sides in the rear was crap. When the nost of the truck was pointed downhill, water came in and went everywhere.

Also plug the holes in your roof that the previous owner put in it. That did a lot for me

leak # 1 Im sure of many detected this afternoon..
ends up I had a good stream of water coming in from the windscreen hinge pivot.
I only tackled the driver side this afternoon.. I didn't test the passenger side as of yet...
used an extra sealing washer I had from the sunshade and a bit of silicone on the threads







I also started clearing out the rain gutters from all the PO attempts of sealer, my painters attempt at seam sealer, and a good layer of PPG limestone..
it might not be the most attractive, but I found a "flex n firm" seam sealer by 3m thats first ingredient is limestone.. so how can I go wrong??

I always park w/ the right front being the lowest point...... like the wheel off the driveway. Then I keep a Sham Wow in the channel where the roof bolts to windshield in that low corner.

ill post some pics tonight..
but I used 3M fast and firm in the rain gutters this past weekend..
got a bit messy and prob should be done BEFORE painting..
but the nice think is its a great color match and the excess will be scrapped off with a platic razor blade..
but I got into the truck this morning with little to no water infiltration!!!
some leaks still with the doors and edges.. but those will be done in due time..
