Cheap Fairey OD. Buyer beware.

Sometimes they can be a good deal but sometimes a cheap overdrive can end up being expensive. Best is if you can look at it in person.

Yep. Sometimes you won't know unless you crack it open, or hear it running. I doubt a seller would let you do that without buying it first.

Lets see....
"Look at it first."... Covered as it is a local seller
" beware cheap ones.".... At 500 , 30 to send to rds , even with 300 in new fitted parts and 30 to ship back , a total of 860 and 2-3 weeks gets you a nice overdrive...new is STILL 1500.....
Any other "sage " advise?

had to put 250 into
still totaly worth it.
glad i took a chance
saves my ass for going on 6 hour trips like winter romp.
8 hours without overdrive.
if nothing else youl have something to work with.
i hear the roverdrives are great but 1500 dollars is alot to swallow.

I contacted the seller and it is sold pending funds.

That was a good deal.

I don't know Kris. Using caution while buying a used piece of equiptment that is known for having issues, off the internet seems like pretty "sage" advice to me.

Especially equipment that apparently isn't always rebuildable according to the real-life testimonials of folks on the OTHER Fairey thread...

If the splines are iffy, it's generally advisable to change the clutch and mainshaft together, which will run the north side of $500.
I've just gone through one, replaced all shims to bring the endfloat under .005", replaced the mainshaft and new clutch, yours for $800. I'll even loan you the special socket to get the 'castle sorta nut' off.

I just installed mine and had no trouble getting the nut off..... Maybe I am the lucky one. Of course everything else will fail now.
